FAQs About Lapland

What is the best time to visit Lapland for a Christmas holiday?

The best time to visit Lapland for a Christmas holiday is between late November and early January, when the region is covered in snow and the festive atmosphere is at its peak.

Is Lapland suitable for young children?

Yes! However, due to the extreme cold (which can reach -30°C), we recommend Lapland for children aged 4 and above.

What should I pack for Lapland?

Warm layers, thermal clothing, waterproof boots, gloves, and hats are essential. Snowsuits & Boots are provided as part of your package.

Is Skiing Clothing Suitable for Lapland?

Ski clothing is designed for cold weather but may not be fully suitable for Lapland’s extreme conditions as your body will not be working as hard as it does when skiing. Unless you are skiing in Lapland, you will need appropriate clothing. We recommend wearing moisture-wicking base layers, thick insulated mid-layers, and high-quality waterproof outerwear. The good news is that our packages include snowsuits and boots, ensuring you stay warm and comfortable during all activities.

Can I see the Northern Lights in Lapland?

Yes, Lapland is one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights, especially in locations like Saariselkä and Ivalo. We have some great Northern lights adventures

How long are the Husky Rides?

Husky rides in Lapland typically last between 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the package you choose. The 10 minute, or taster sessions are perfect for younger children below 6 who may get cold easily if they're sat still for an hour on the sleigh. Longer safari-style experiences are available for those wanting an extended adventure and older children.

How long are the Reindeer Rides?

Reindeer rides in Lapland usually last between 10 to 2 hours, depending on the experience you choose. Shorter rides are ideal for young children, while longer, scenic routes allow you to soak in the breath taking winter landscape at a leisurely pace.

How old must you be to ride on a Snowmobile?

To drive a snowmobile in Lapland, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence (make sure you take it with you as you will be asked to produce it). Depending on the resort you visit, children from 8 years old can ride as a passenger on the back of a Snowmobile. However, children as young as 4 years old can participate as passengers in a sleigh pulled by a guide-driven snowmobile.

What other times can we visit Lapland?

The best time to visit Lapland depends on the experience you’re looking for. If you want a true Christmas atmosphere with snow-covered landscapes and festive activities, late November to early January is ideal. Please be aware that some resorts only offer Santa Visits during the runup to Christmas. Ask our helpful team before booking. For Northern Lights viewing, September to March offers the best chances. If you're interested in winter sports, the ski season runs from late November to April. You can also visit Finland throughout the summer. We will be happy to explore all options with you.
